Indiana University School of Medicine, Bloomington is announcing the search for an Assistant Director for Clinical Education. The IUSM-Bloomington campus is an actively growing full four-year medical school campus that currently hosts approximately 100 medical students across all four years of the Doctor of Medicine program. Additionally, the campus will tentatively enter the 2024 Match as a new IUSM graduate medical clinical site with residencies in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Family Medicine. Medical students are taught in the new IU-Bloomington Health Sciences Building, which includes interprofessional SIM Center. The campus is supported by a brand new IU Health hospital—a level 3 trauma and level 2 NICU. The IU Health Bloomington Hospital serves as a regional referral center for the entire South-Central region of Indiana.

The Assistant Director will lead and supervise the clinical Undergraduate Medical (UME) and Graduate Medical (GME) mission of the Center. The Assistant Director will serve as the Assistant Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for the IUSM-Bloomington residencies and will oversee all aspects of the implementation of clinical components of the curriculum of the IUSM-Bloomington. This includes Foundations of Clinical Practice in Phase I/phase II clerkships, and Phase III required rotations and electives.   The Assistant Director will have direct reporting lines to the (1) IUSM-Bloomington Associate Dean and Director, who also serves as the Chief Academic Officer for IU Health South Central Region, and (2) the Designated Institutional Official of the IUSM, located in Indianapolis. The Assistant Director will work intimately with the Director to ensure a seamless and integrated medical education continuum.

The Bloomington campus of the IUSM and the South Central Region of IU Health has a long and rich tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration with other health sciences, and the 40,000 student IU-Bloomington campus has a strong undergraduate (baccalaureate) pre-medical presence. The Assistant Director will have the opportunity to leverage community and University resources to collaborate with other health sciences and the undergraduate premed community to create a visionary and impactful footprint for the IUSM-Bloomington.
