 This position is in the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Central Office, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The incumbent serves as the Chief, Health Professions Education (HPE).

 This announcement will remain open until the November 8, 2021 closing date. This announcement has a cut-off date of October 21, 2021.  The incumbent manages the operational, logistical and technical aspects of the clinical service lines in OAA, including both programmatic responsibilities for clinical training programs, as well as administrative responsibilities such as recruitment, employee performance assessment, employee professional development and succession planning. The Chief HPE assists the Deputy Chief Officer with responsibilities in such areas as policy development, relationship building with both internal and external stakeholders, and project design and management. The Chief, HPE reports to the Deputy Chief Officer and is the primary supervisor for the clinical service lines of OAA. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Providing the day-to-day supervision of the OAA clinical health professions education service lines: Medical and Dental Education, Associated Health Education, Nursing Education, and Advanced Fellowships.

  • Providing consultation with field stakeholders and providing advice regarding policy and operational educational issues.
  • Partnering with the Chief Financial Officer and Informatics Officer, the OAA Executive Officer, the Director of the Oversight and Compliance Unit, and the Director of the Medical Informatics Unit to develop and recommend strategic initiatives along with their associated budget and staffing impact.
  • Aligning the OAA portfolio to create and maintain sustainable workforce pipelines in high priority professions and disciplines.
  • Developing new strategies, alignments and partnerships that will serve VA education and clinical care in the future.
  • Evaluating current programs for alignment with VA goals, objectives and workforce needs and OAA performance measures.
  • In collaboration with the Oversight and Compliance Unit, identifying and managing risks in the OAA portfolio.

Work schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, or as negotiated

Pay:  Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
