- Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation
Description

The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as its next Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape the future of medical education within one of the nation's most innovative, mission-driven institutions. Fully integrated within Kaiser Permanente—the largest nonprofit health system in the U.S.—KPSOM is redefining physician training through a forward-looking curriculum grounded in health systems science, health equity, and early clinical immersion. The Associate Dean will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education and lead a comprehensive, data-driven approach to assessing student performance and evaluating faculty effectiveness and curricular outcomes.
The Associate Dean will oversee all aspects of assessment and evaluation across the M.D. program, advancing a robust competency-based medical education framework while building the infrastructure to support continuous quality improvement. This includes leading the Office of Assessment and Evaluation, guiding faculty development, ensuring accreditation compliance, and integrating emerging technologies and analytics into assessment and evaluation systems. Working collaboratively with faculty, leadership, and governance bodies, the Associate Dean will leverage data to inform decision-making, support learner success, and enhance educational programs. This role also plays a central part in fostering a culture of inquiry, innovation, and equity—ensuring fair, consistent, and meaningful assessment and evaluation practices across clinical and academic environments.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished educator and scholar with deep expertise in assessment and evaluation within medical or health professions education. Candidates should hold an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree, qualify for appointment at the associate or full professor level, and possess a demonstrated record of leadership, scholarship, and national engagement. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strategic, collaborative leader to build and scale a high-impact assessment and evaluation enterprise, contribute to national conversation in medical education, and influence the development of future physician leaders. Based in Pasadena, California, this role offers both professional impact and an outstanding quality of life within a vibrant and intellectually rich community.
Confidential inquiries, nominations, expressions of interest, and candidate materials (including a letter of interest and CV) should be submitted via email to the WittKieffer consultants supporting this search through the office of Tricia Porter at [email protected].
