Childrens Hospital of Richmond at VCU is seeking a Pediatric Endocrinology Division Chief to drive innovation, elevate research, and lead a powerhouse clinical team at CHoR. Shape the future of pediatric endocrine care and ignite impact across Virginia.
Mission or Goal of Unit: The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Childrens Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) is recruiting an established and funded investigator to assume the Chief of the Division. The Division manages the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, the regions most comprehensive program for children with diabetes and other endocrine disorders, as well as the Healthy Lifestyles Center, the regions most comprehensive pediatric obesity treatment and research center. The division offers medical care, clinical trials, medical nutrition therapy, psychological support, education, and support groups. Division faculty have a robust research portfolio, which includes both extramurally-funded research and industry sponsored clinical trials, making the division a leader in advancing obesity and diabetes-related research. The successful candidate must be board certified in pediatric endocrinology, and eligible for appointment at the Associate or Professor level. Pediatric Endocrinology plays an integral role in the Department of Pediatrics' educational programs (medical students, residents, fellows and ancillary staff) and research development.
Chief Purpose of this Position in Support of Above Mission or Goal: The Childrens Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University is currently seeking an academic faculty member to serve as the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology. The Division Chief Pediatric Endocrinology is appointed by and reports directly to the Chair of Pediatrics, works closely with other Division Chiefs and Vice Chairs in the Department and CHoR. The Chief will serve as the administrative head of the Division of Endocrinology, fostering a culture of excellence and clinical care. The Chief will be responsible for the strategic planning and day-to-day outcomes of the division, and will provide a mix of: direct clinical care; clinical administrative and QA/QI activities; didactic and bedside teaching for students, residents and fellows; and mentorship and career development for members of the division. The Chief will have a strong research initiative, and will be expected to sustain a nationally-recognized research program. The Chief is responsible in fostering a collegial culture amongst the faculty and supporting their mentorship and career development.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching: The Chief will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Pediatric Endocrinology and provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents, chief residents, and fellows when applicable. The Division has fellowship programs in Pediatric Endocrinology and Obesity Medicine. In addition, the Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology oversees the scholarly activity of the pediatric endocrinology faculty that includes provision of education and mentorship to trainees.
- Service: The Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology will serve on hospital or departmental (CHoR or VCUH) committees when appropriate, and engage in professional activities through journal review, conference presentations and national organization committee work. The Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology leads collaborative efforts within CHoR and the VCU Health (VCUH) system to ensure that the highest quality patient care if provided in a professional, culturally competent manner, partnering with leadership to ensure this extends throughout the health systems with mindfulness toward resource allocation and healthcare expenditures.
- Clinical: The physician will provide clinical service as a Pediatric Endocrinologist for the Department of Pediatrics of CHoR based at CHoR. Will work the requisite number of in hospital days, evenings, weekends and provide off site/home call as necessary to maintain clinical coverage of the pediatric endocrinology outpatient and inpatient services.
- Administrative:
- The Physician will take on administrative duties associated with the role including:
- Attendance and participation at division staff and provider meetings
- Attendance and participation at fellowship conferences
- Participation in fellowship interview process
- Attendance at department faculty meetings
- Attendance at VCU School of Medicine faculty meetings
- The Division Chief will take on further administrative duties associated with the role including:
- Attendance and participation at Pediatric Division Chiefs meetings (2 per month)
- Coordination of resources with Pediatric Nursing and Ambulatory Care
- Collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) CHoR and associate CMOs CHoR to align clinical services of CHoR at VCU
- Collaboration with Vice Chair of Education, Residency Program Director(s) and Medical School Pediatric Clerkship Directors at CHoR to align academic missions with ACUGME and ACGME learners within CHoR at VCU
- Foster collaboration with and outreach to pediatric practitioners in the Metro Richmond Region and Commonwealth of Virginia, ensuring seamless care coordination

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidates must be board certified in pediatrics
- Candidates must be board certified in Pediatric Endocrinology
- All candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in Virginia
- Active Drug Enforcement Agency licensure
- Demonstrated clinical experience in pediatric endocrinology
- Demonstrated leadership experience or program development in pediatric endocrinology
- Eligible for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor level in Pediatrics
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior quality improvement initiative development
- Completion of a medical leadership curriculum program
- Research focus within pediatric endocrinology or obesity medicine
